"Autumn Treasure" is a captivating multi-layered artwork. This piece has been a joyful meditation for Gillian to create.
 
This work started with a simple layer of calico, to which was added coloured fabrics and papers, before layering machine embroidery and coloured inks. Form was given to the background using a clear fabric glue, before adding bronze lustre and hand-stitching delicate beaded accents.
 
The leaf is the final layer and is painted in copper, bronze and gold acrylic paint. The leaf is embellished with cut pieces of Silver Birch bark, found in local woodland.
 
The jewel colours and complex textures are heightened by the use of raised mounting and the glazed, deep box frame - both of which give the art a space to bloom.
